Having been to
San Juan PR many times previously, I was not as dismayed as some passengers were when the ship arrived at 5 PM, two hours late. Even the scheduled 3 PM arrival time was not realistic for a decent visit to such an interesting city. There was some rough Atlantic Ocean water on the way to San Juan which, combined with the fact that, in my estimation, this large ship is underpowered and initial poor scheduling all made for not the best visit to San Juan. If this cruise wants to advertise San Juan as its first island stop, an honest approach would be to label it a late afternoon/night visit. NCL's consolation for the 2 hour late arrival was to extend the departure time from 10 PM to midnight. I happened to be with some people who knew, as it turned out, a very good restaurant with an excellent pianist. So my short night time visit to San Juan was a good one.
