Since we walked from the ship into town, we can't say enough about the island itself. The walk was easy from cruise to town. We did not like the pestering of locals looking to take us here, there, and everywhere.
Since we walked from the ship into town, we can't say enough about the island itself. The walk was easy from cruise to town. We did not like the pestering of locals looking to take us here, there, and everywhere. We were a little bothered by the planking that we walked over on the streets and what might be flowing under the planks!
Our tour guide and bus driver were wonderful. Our guide was remarkable with her ability to remember everyone's first name on the bus! We love the stop at the old fort site and Shirley Heights. A wonderful way to learn a little about the island, but in luxury of an air-conditioned bus.
This was definitely our favorite island -- even though we started on with "sprinkles" coming down. The tour of the island gave us a general idea of what exists on both the Dutch and French side of the island. We loved the stop on the French side to enjoy the port city where we ate at a wonderful outside cafe and had the best Mussels (and huge quantity) we have ever experienced. We would head back here in a minute to learn about and explore more of the island.
Our island tour gave us a wonderful view of the beautiful locations that could be found on this island. If we had planned better, this would have been the location for a "beach" day -- Magen Bay Beach. We saw many of the best locations from high-point sites and the island was well described by our tour director. The shopping here was overwhelming -- especially for JEWELRY! Next time I will purchase a "babble".
