Half Moon Cay

Great beach! Plenty of beach chairs for 1 ship, but would have been very crowded if there was another ship. There is a bar and clothing/jewelry/etc shops. Free cooked hot dogs, hamburgers, ice tea, lemonade, etc was close by. We did the sting ray excursion on the other side of the island, free transportation was provided. I can't say enough about the beach. Fun time. What a blast! We booked the sting ray excursion and was provided with free transportation to the other side of the island. The sting ray was located in an enclosed pen which was fairly descent in size, the area was windy and made the water a little rough to swim and stand in. They provided goggles and mask for us to swim around and look under water at the sting rays other sea life. Food was provided and handed out to everyone to feed the sting rays.

Helmet Dive Rating: 4.0 out of 5+

Coral World staff was professional and informative. The helmet dive was fun but restricted with you only able to walk under water around a circular path via under water hand rail. There were sea life that the dive instructor was able to pull out from under rocks and corals and the instructor fed some fish along the way via a cylinder. The helmet was restrictive in movement and in viewing angle. We did the snuba diving in Grand Cayman, that was lots of fun and I highly recommend that!

When you walk onto Coral World grounds you are immediately greeted by inguanas running all over the place! They have an netted area where you could feed lorikeet birds. They'll fly right to you looking for food! There's also a hands on tank for sting rays, another hands on tank that had star fish, sea slugs and large snails. Another enclosed area that had a couple of small sharks that they let you get into. And a trail to walk around the area.

We had no excursion booked for that island. We walked around the shopping district of Old San Juan and didn't really see much to shop for. All the buildings are in some form of disrepair. Right near the ship, before and after our walk we were hounded by mini bus drivers offering tours of Old and New San Juan for $10 per person which we finally agreed to do since we had nothing else to do. The tour was pretty informative but found it tough to understand the drivers broken english.

There was plenty of beach recliners for just about everyone for our ship. If there was another ship, it would have been very crowded. The water was nice to swim in as long as you don't twist an ankle walking in it. Under the water there are huge slates of volcanic rock which had holes and divots all over the place and slick with sea weed. Magaritaville was pretty cool with a bar in fresh water pool, t-shirt, jewelry, etc shops. Beyond a certain point along the beach there is a sign warning people that crossing this point you are leaving cruise company controlled area. Beyond that point you are hounded by people offering horse and inflatable boat rides, drinks, etc. Maybe if we had gone beyond Magaritaville and shops and explored outside of that area it might have been more fun.
