In Grand Turk we arranged a car rental from Grace Bay Car Rentals. We e-mailed back and forth a few times prior to booking. All correspondence was returned within a day. Normally, the rentals begin at 9 am but since we were in port from 7 am until 2 pm we were able to get the car for 8 am. We met Jessie just outside the Indigo shop - he was easy to spot in his Blue Grace Bay shirt. He took us to the parking lot (not even a 2 minute walk) and did up the paperwork and credit card invoice. We did not give any of this information prior to our rental. We drove up to the Lighthouse and enjoyed the views from the coast then traveled around the island stopping along the coast to wander. After touring the island we went to Bohio Resort beach (a public beach) at Jessie's suggestion. we were able to snorkel and swim for a couple of hours. Then back to the ship. We returned the car to the parking lot and left the keys under the mat. It was a great, inexpensive way for 4 of us to see the island and have the security of a trunk to lock our belongings while we were away from the car.
Michelle from Mark Morris tours picked us up at the cruiseport and took us to the River Tubing portion of our tour first. This was a great decision since we were able to get there before the crowds. We enjoyed a leisurely trip down the river with a nice young (19 yrs old) guide. Michelle got our tickets, made sure we got off and then met us at the end. We were able to lock our belongings in her van and just take our waterproof camera with us. After the river tubing, we were off to Dunn's River Falls. Again, Michelle got our entrance tickets and guided us into the park. We decided to go without a guide which was a great decision. We were able to walk past hundreds of people waiting for a guide and go straight to the bottom of the Falls. Michelle watched while we got started then went back to the vehicle. We were able to make our way up the falls without having to wait very often. With the groups, they were waiting at many sections for pictures to be taken. Since it was just the 4 of us we could get our pictures and keep moving. It was a challenging climb - we are all in our mid 50's - but the guys were able to help us out when we needed a boost! After we got to the top we were able to make our way quickly through the vendors without much of a hassle - a simple "no thanks" seemed to go a long way. We stopped for a beer before leaving the park. Michelle met us right at the exit and took us back to the van. At this point we were able to go shopping or for lunch or wherever or whatever we wanted to do. We opted to return to the ship since we are not shoppers. Back at the ship we settled up with Michelle - $65 each plus our tip. A very reasonable price for a great private tour (just the 4 of us). I would highly recommend Mark Morris tours for an excursion in Jamaica.
In Nassau, we opted to do a walking tour which we got off the Internet and then spent some time at Junkanoo beach. With the walking tour, we went to the Fort and the Queen's staircase first then explored the Historic District and the Churches, ending up at the Straw Market. From there we went to Senor Frogs for a drink and free WiFi so we could book our return flights. From there we walked to Junkanoo beach and spent an hour or 2 in the water and sitting on the beach people watching. From there, we wandered back to the ship - it was a very easy walk on sidewalks the entire way.
