We were a bit disappointed with Split. We were tendered early and went up Marjan hill for the first 2 hours enjoying the scenery and walking off all the food!
We then went back into the old town which was crowded and had lots of graffiti everywhere. The old part was nice to walk around in for a short while but after a drink and walk around the promenade we had seen enough.

Athens (Piraeus)
Port Rating: 4.0 out of 5+

We went to Athens last year on our cruise and went to the Acropolis. This year we did our own thing and walked off the ship and along by the port in Pireus and took the train for 4 euros each return to the centre of Athens, 20 mins away. This allowed us to ride the trains several times and we initially took the train out to Likavitos hill and after a short climb, and an encounter with a tortoise!,had a spectacular view of all of Athens. The remainder of the time was spend exploring around the Plaka area and old town.Plenty of shops, bars, restaurants, museums. Returned via train to port.Athens has its problems but its transport system isn't one of them!

Ephesus Rating: 4.0 out of 5+

Booked the half day tour to Ephesus which was worthwhile as we were one of the first buses to arrive and we got to see the sites without the crowds. Well worth a visit.Glad we were early as over 50 buses waiting to get in as we left.Got taken to the carpet demo afterwards in Kusadasi which to be fair we could have walked away from if we had wanted. Was actually quite interesting and the owner was very funny and polite with no hard sell afterwards. We left and walked around the town which we liked and did some "negotiating" with the local shops for some souvenirs. Having been to countries which demand you haggle I wasn't to bothered but I know several passengers not used to it got angry and upset at the constant hard sell. Its not for everyone. Had the usual Macdonalds/Burger King/Irish bar/Starbucks as well as nice local cafe's and bakeries to try baclava and other Greek/turkish foods.Ship was docked right next to town.

Gulet Cruise Rating: 5.0 out of 5+

Had a great day which started with a boat trip for 4 hours stopping at 3 locations around the coastal waters for sunbathing or swimming.Only complaint was it wasn't actually a Gulet that was used, which we had sailed on many years ago, but the boat was pleasant and there was plenty of space for all. We then walked around the town which appeared more upmarket than Kusadasi but you still have to Haggle for those genuine fakes! plenty of shops/bars/restaurants and if you want to work at Starbucks, this one is located on the waterfront with a great terrace.

Lindos Walking Tour Rating: 5.0 out of 5+

Took the near full day excursion to Lindos as have heard its a must see. An hour on the bus passed quickly with our guide Tony who had us stop at a working pottery shop for a demo and toilet break.Lindos was worth seeing and we had free time after going up to the monuments at the top to explore the old town and go to the nearby beach for a swim. Both of which we did.Bus trip back left us an hour to explore Rhodes Town where the ship was docked next to. It was also worth seeing and no hastle or hard sell!

Oia Village Rating: 5+ out of 5+

One of the most beautiful places we have ever seen!!!
Took the excursion early to village of Oia, perched on the cliff edge, with the white houses and blue roofed churches.Quiet time of day. The photo's don't do it justice. Incredible! Just walked around and basked in the atmosphere and views. Wine tour on way back waste of time apart for toilet stop as Greek wine not to most people's liking.Dropped in main village of Fira for own explore and more incredible views and walks along the coastal path. One of the last to go down on the cable car to port for tender ride back to ship. Didn't want to leave!

Sea Kayaking Rating: 5.0 out of 5+

Went to Dubrovnik last year and loved it.Get some local currency before you go or as soon as you arrive as some places, like the city walls, wont take euros. Shared a taxi from port for 10 euros for 4 of us up to the Pile gate. We then walked the city walls for an hour, 8-9, when hardly anybody else there as had done this previously but with the hoards of tours crushing by.Then went sea Kayaking with independent excursion for half price of ship tour. However found out at dock that booking on the day could be even cheaper if willing to take chance they have spaces.Kayaked for 7 1/2 km in rough seas around city walls and over to a rocky beach/cave for snorkelling. We were the oldest on the tour by far in our late 40's but held our own! Then around the island off Dubrovnik and back to town. 3 hours in all but well worth it. Got to walk around the old town and dry off before sharing taxi back to port. Great day.

Finished cruise with an overnight in Venice. Could go on/off the ship all day and night until disembarking the next day. Having been to Venice several times we walked around our favourite places in Cannaregio and around St Marks square.Went to the islands of Murano,Burano and Torcello before going on the cruise and loved Burano in particular. If eating in Venice look at trip advisor before you go as there are so many poor restaurants serving the tourists that it is worth finding the gems.
