Because of arriving into the port 6 hours late, our tour was canceled. The ship did stay in port 4 hours later than originally expected to depart to make up for the late arriveal, but a missed tour is still missed. It was nice that the ship docked right in Fisherman's Wharf, it made it very easy to walk around and see the area, yet the ship was very near by.
Just the opposite of Santa Barbara, where our tender was greeted by about 20 volunteers, here in Catalina Island there were no volunteers to greet you or help, there wasn't even security people there to help you get off the tender. I felt the place was vitually deserted, little to see and do, the most disappointing port on the cruise.
This was a good port for me. If you like seeing navy ships and ships in general, this port is for you. From our balcony we could see 3 aircraft carriers, one is a museum (USS Midway) the others were active carriers. Many Navy ships sailed by. There is an outstanding maritime museum just a few blocks from the dock, old sailing ships and submarines.
