The shopping and the history was good. Traffic can be messy so planning extra time for travel is a good idea. At this time there is a fair amount of infrastructure upgrades occurring. I was concerned about safety. The ship gave repeated warnings about not wearing jewelry or watches.
Enjoyed this port because it was a city in the middle of nowhere. We traveled miles and miles up the amazon to finally arrive a this nice city. It is a typical Brazilian city. The shops were a little less sophisticated than the big coastal cities. We stayed the Tropical Manaus. An interesting hotel with almost a dozen boutique shops and a small zoo right on the property. It was a short walk to the river and a float plane ride. Some areas of the hotel are going through renovation. The room we were assigned was not real fancy, but adequate for our limited stay.
