It rained most of the time we were docked, but I did walk the island. It has been expanded greatly since I was last there, with plenty of dining space, beautiful beachfront, and stone walkways. The water looked inviting, even in the rain. The zip-line at Labadee should not be missed.
This port is only a few years old, and what a great improvement over the old port it Ocho Rios. RC has built a very clean and secure shopping and transportation area just off the pier, keeping the riff-raff out completely. There didn't seem to be any exceptional bargains in the pier shops.
I boarded a bus to Chukka horseback riding through a plantation and into the ocean. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the experience was fantastic and memorable.
High-speed boat took about 20 of us out to Passion Island. The boat ride was FAST, doing about 55mph on the water. They intentionally take some hard twists and turns, so plan on getting soaked both to and from Passion Island. The island is gorgeous, offering one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean (it is where the Corona commericials were filmed). The boat and island staff are great and very pleasant and helpful. Definitely an excellent day at the beach!
