Frankly, if I never go to San Juan again, it will be too soon. The ship arrived at 3pm on Monday afternoon and the streets were virtually vacant. That hardly matters, however, since there is little to do in this unclean old town part of the city.
Phillipsburg is a very nice clean town. The shopping is pleasant and there are nice restaurants. Traveling to Marigot however, you notice the roads are in terrible disrepair. The French side is expensive and much less clean than the Dutch side, in my opinion.
We did a little shopping in probably the nicest shopping district in the Caribbean and then took a private tour of the island with an independent tour operator who we met in the town center. Wonderful tour and very reasonably priced at $25.
