Our first port was at Grand Cayman which required us to tender from the Magic to the terminal on the island. We looked at the offered excursions and were put off by the cost which was high and the suitability for kids our age (which was quite low.)

We were deeply disappointed with the way Disney handled the tendering operation. They queue people in the Buena Vista theater (which was good) but didn't communicate any useful information for people like us who were traveling with a stroller and a bunch of borrowed towels and our beach bag. Once we reached the tender lobby it was a bit of bedlam as people streamed through the disembarkation check points and it was super crowded which made keeping the kids together tough.

Once we were on the tender though, things calmed down. Once we reached the island, our goal was to get to a beach. We met a gypsy cab driver who offered to drive us in his minivan to a nice public beach with public bathrooms, outdoor showers, and a restaurant/bar for $5 a head. We ended up on Governor's Beach (Public Beach) which even had a playground for the kids and several picnic shelters. There were plenty of places to rent beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkels and so forth. We had a great trip here and there were plenty of minibuses and cabs to get back to the terminal in time to tender back to our ship.

In Cozumel our ship docked at the Punta Langosta pier, so we just walked off the ship but it was a LONG walk to the shopping mall. We were intercepted by a pair of hawkers who offered to take us to a resort with a pool, a private beach, bathrooms, outdoor showers, and included snorkeling equipment and the return trip to the pier. We started at $25 bucks a head, but we eventually got down to $20/adult $10/kid, or $60 total. We ended up at a place called Buccanos which has pretty good reviews on TripAdvisor. It was a great stop - we ended up spending a decent amount of time in the pool because it was easier for the kids, and it was really fun to see some schools of fish swim around us in the ocean - the water at the beach was so clear and beautiful.
