It's an age thing and people who love snorkeling, etc. would rate it Higher. We hired a taxi to drive us around the island without stopping at the obligatory souvenir shops. The poverty is depressing.
We hired a private van with 10 other people who were all interested in the cultural experience of seeing the old and new parts of this former British colony.
We stayed in the area that was built by the cruise lines and watched the younger crowd swimm with the dolphins. With 3 other cruise ships in port, we figured Mayan ruins would be crowded.
Worth a visit if one has never been to this part of the world. we hired a van with 8 other people and the driver showed us the remote parts of the island where the crashing waves make swimming almost impossible. Again with 3 other cruise ships in port, we figured the Mayan ruins would be crowded and we did not want to be part of a herd.
