Been here before and took a city tour. My wife never got off the ship, but I went birding next to the visitor center on the pier, which is pretty good and has refreshing beer to rehydrate you.

My opinion of Cartagena is: it's a hole....

Took a 20 buck cab ride to the Bubali Bird Preserve on the coast and birded for the morning. Upon return, had a beer and boarded the ship.

Puntarenas (Puerto Caldera)
River Cruise & Scarlet Macaw Sanctuary Rating: 4.0 out of 5+
Not too bad, but the guide was not very good at the birds. The Macaw Sanctuary was better, but the guide was too busy running the standard tour for the passengers to help me much.
