shore excursion rep let us take this tour alone when the mexican park is
usslly provided as an add-on. we met joshua on the dock. he quickly bonded because he'd lived in vancouver for 9 yrs. and my daughter and i live there. another mother and daughter duo from USA joined us. we picked this tour because we're history buffs and the tour offered an overview of mexico, past and present. joshua was aztec and shared his personal experince of the day of the dead as well as mayan history and culture. park was touristy, but i expected that. tour lasted 2 hours w/ a break at a outdoor restaurant. reccommend a coconut drink ($2.) in the shell. cool and refreshing.
cruise director reccommended uxmal over chitzen itsa (he'd been to both) we took his advise. no regrets. guide gave a thorough history and cultural explanation of the mayans in relation to the ruins. drive there on air=conditioned bus 45 min. 2 hrs. at ruins incl. free time to climb and explore. bought a book on mayans w/ great pics of various ruins incl. uxmal at gift shop. snacks, clothing, jewelery and souveneers also available. bring camera. ruins riviting. 45 min. back. tour to chitzen itsa 2 hrs. drive there and 2 hrs. back. uxmal an easier day and less crowded.
