Disappointing. A big letdown compared to Disney's Castaway Cay. The lunch buffet was awful, and the chicken was really undercooked (raw and bloody near the bone). Tip: make sure to bring your pool towels from the ship. There are no towels on the island and my husband had to take the tender back to the ship to get our towels which took nearly an hour. Disney provided towels on Castaway Cay so we were expecting the same. A little note in the daily Compass reminding people to bring their own towels would have been appreciated (we saw similar reminders for other ports of call).
we elected not to book any excursions but took a safari bus to Magen's Bay. You just walk off the ship and then it's about a 5 minute walk to the taxi stand. Very easy. The fare was $8 pp each way, so $64 for a family of 4 (return). There was also a $4 pp admission fee to Magen's Bay but children under 12 are free. The beach was VERY crowded. There were food and drinks available, but they were very expensive. Washroom facilities were pretty gross, but available. In retrospect, we should have gone to a quieter beach. It was hard to find a place to sit. The beach is gorgeous though. Lots of taxis waiting to take people back to port or you can pre-arrange a pick up time with the driver who brought you.
We elected not to book any excursions through the ship but did book a tour with Bernard's Tours. Fantastic. $40 pp and it was an amazing day. We saw so much of the island, but still had 2 full hours at Orient Beach. For anyone worried about not making it back to the ship in time, rest assured that Bernard will get you back in plenty of time. They have a timetable and they follow it to the letter. Orient Beach was beautiful but be prepared to be swarmed by vendors as soon as you arrive. They are relentless. Nice beach, although the water was a little choppy the day we were there.
