Dunedin is a beautiful university town and the peninsula surrounding Dunedin is beautiful. We hired a car and took a look at all of the area. Enjoyed lunch at a beautiful hotel in Port Chalmers and really enjoyed just looking around a very beautiful part of the world.
Wonderful wildlife cruise on the bay in Akaroa. Thoroughly enjoyable and great value. Tender arrives at the wharf where the cruise leaves from so it's all very easy.
Hired a car and drove ourselves to Rotorua via the lakes are and through the mountains - just spectacular. Never seen so many beautiful tree ferns - by the thousands - in the rainforest.
Went to the Rotorua Museum and the park where lots of geysers and mud pools can be viewed for free - stayed clear of the tourist parks as there's plenty to see and do without goign into such a highly controlled environment.
The sulphur smell can be overpowering at times and after a few hours we both agreed it was time to leave and breathe some 'clean' air.
Also enjoyed a drive up the coast from Mount Manganui (where the ship docks). Beautiful seaside suburb with superb beach.
