This was really an extension of the ship, very small, cruise-line owned island with some nice activities and controlled experience. The boat was anchored and people were tendered to the island. The morning line was long, though everyone got tickets and times to come back and go on land. We decided against going, as the ship was cleared out and we were enjoying our time together. I gave it a 4 because this review didn't give us an option button for didn't visit.

My goof ended up creating an unforgettable experience for us. We took a taxi and for some reason, I was remembering a little island we had visited via a small ferry while in St Croix, and I asked the taxi driver to take us to the island ferry. He dropped us off at a harbor, which was not what I remembered, but we decided to have lunch and met some locals, who said that the ferry ($8 round trip) would take us to a great place called Water Island, and to go to Honeymoon Bay. We decided to go for it, and discovered a very cool little island with lots of expats, golf carts for getting around (and some very steep hills.) One of the residents gave us a ride in her cart to the top of the hill, where we had our first glimpse of the beautiful bay with little sailboats dotting the water. It was beautiful, with a small and very clean beach, thatched huts to sit under, two locals who had set up bar, and nothing commercial in sight we loved it and spent the afternoon there, and then walked back to the ferry -- these hills are steep, you must be able to walk several hundred yards up and down hills -- and there were no rentals for chairs or water toys, etc. Most of the people who were at the beach, which was not crowded, were local residents or people who were staying in an island bed and breakfast.

This is a port that can be as much or as little as you want to make of it. Lots of shopping right off the ship, or take excursions (we have done several combo excursions in the past including a catamaran trip to the French side for lunch and shopping, which was wonderful) but this time opted to hire a cab and stay on the Dutch side for a more relaxed visit. We like this island, and this is where we got our obligatory souvenirs for those holding the fort down back home. We went back to the ship for an early dinner at Qsine, so didn't eat in port.
