Noumea is close to the city centre, you can walk around and there will be various shops. It can be a bit daunting for first timers and its climate is tropical. You need pacific francs which can be purchased on board the ship. There are various tours such as the cho-cho train, or you can purchase a ticket for $5 on the hop on hop off bus that takes you to the two swimming beaches and also to various other areas such as the shopping mall (very small but has some nice specialty clothing shops for the ladies and a super market) There is also a super market (Casino)close to the ship.
