We took a $11 (one way) taxi to Chankhanaab Park where we spent the day. Great snorkeling, clean bathrooms, food, drinks, etc. Seal and dolphin shows. Lots of beach chairs. Printed out a $2/person coupon before going.

Port area and tour guides were disapointing but Altun Ha pyramids were great. We took "Altun Ha and City Tour". We drove through Belize city while guides yelled trivial facts about Belize at us. No information about the Maya given until we got to the pyramids (do research before you go). Bus ride took 90 minutes from port to Altun Ha on a one lane road with no traffic (would take longer if traffic). Pyramids are beautiful and you can climb them, if not rainy. No safety rails - would not be safe for little kids. Port area is just a few shops and 2 bars. Tendering in is time consuming. There is no beach near the port area - if you want a beach you will need to do an excursion. Would recommend an excursion or staying on the ship rather than just wandering the port area.

Many of our fellow cruise passengers walked over to the shopping village and beach area created by Carnival. Plenty of beach chairs, bars, food etc. but the water itself is filled with sea grass. Still, great for little kids to play on the sand. We took a taxi to West Bay ($30/person RT). Although the beach was crowded (4 ships in port that day), we found a place for our towels without paying for a beach chair. The snorkeling was fantastic and the beach sand was good. West Bay and West End have excellent snorkeling from the beach. Plenty of bars and restaurants if you want to eat and drink.

Rather than stay in the Senor Frog's at the port, we took the bus ($2/each OW) to Mahahual town and we were glad we did. Wide beach walkway for strolling (2 miles long), lots of beach bars in the sand with massages, small shops, food, drink, etc. Great calm beach with snorkeling right off the beach. Although it was raining heavily, we had a great time with a beer under a palapa. Much better "Mexican feel" than the cruise port village. One excursion, biking along the beach boardwalk on cruiser bikes, looked fun.
