Took a tender to shore and were welcomed by volunteers from the town. Only a short, easy 10 min walk to town, then had a look at the shops in the main street. Our daughter enjoyed swimming at the lagoon. Overcast / showery day we were back on board for lunch
We were welcomed with cannon firing 3 times and a lot of people came out to watch the ship arrive. The ship docked at the industrial area. Newcastle provided a free bus to get us closer to the shops and volunteers to welcome us. We walked about 15 min to Fort Scratchley, a historic site. We paid for a tour given by volunteers that went for about an hour. My partner found it interesting but our 4 year old daughter didn't. We walked back to the bus stop and headed back to the ship for lunch. It was really nice to see a lot of people line the foreshore to wave goodbye to the ship as we left that evening.
