The view from the ship is beautiful, but once outside the gated, guarded, port compound you can see that this is still a very poor place. Shore excursion to Red Stripe Beach ($24 per person) was clean and safe. Next time I will likely stay only in the pier area to shop and then back to the ship.
This is a beautiful place! We befriended another couple at the Meet & Mingle, so the four of us hired a driver to show us the island for the afternoon at cost of $35 per person. Drove around to all the sites and stopped at Hell, rum cake factory and brewery. Back at the port area had lunch at a little restaurant and then did some shopping at Margaritaville before heading back to the ship. Most beautiful blue water I've ever seen! Can't wait to go back to this port of call.
Beautiful port area! Nachi Cocom beach club was amazing! The staff there was so nice, drinks and food were plentiful. Rented a large raft that was tethered in the water just off the beach, and drank dirty monkey drinks (similar to mudslides) all day. Taxi ride was $15 each way for our group of 4. Can't wait to go back to Cozumel and would recommend Nachi Cocom to anyone. By the way, this beach club only allows 100 people each day so it is not overcrowded. There were only 40 people there on our day, not a lot of people know about this terrific beach club I guess.
