Juan Nunez, our cabby, took us everywhere. We ended up on the West End beach. It was great. Cold, cheap beer, tasty treats. Water was beautiful and clean. The only thing I would say was a downer was all the local vendors constantly pestering you. They seem to think we are all rich Americans. Actually, might serve them better to know that we are just as hard working as they are, spend most of the year saving our money and knowing how to spend wisely.

It was hot, busy and boring. Nice clean shops but high prices. Again, we are not rich Americans. We take a year to save our money.

Outside the port walls, you get invaded by locals wanting to sell you junk. We got soooo pestered by a local that wanted to take us on a tour of the city in his "fully air conditioned 2003 Dodge Caravan" for $50 each, and "cheaper if you get more people in the van". We told him we had to think about it, left us alone but followed us for a while. As it got hotter, the a/c in the van sounded better and better. I whipped out two crisp $20's and asked him to take us on a private tour. He agreed. The trip was ok. Not much to see in Belize City but some nice houses "of the rich", slums, traffic, etc. But we managed to stop and buy a couple of cold beers for the road. Some expensive souvenir shops. The tender boats to and from the ship were a hassle but had no choice. Not the best use of our time overall for Belize City. Should have stayed on the ship.

It was a very windy day in Cozumel. Gusts to 50 mph. All water and boat activities were canceled for the day (as we were to catamaran to Paradise Island. We were bused to the end of Cozumel in an old, hot bus which made the initial trip less than desired, and took a smaller boat to the Island where all the food and drink awaited us. People were extremely attentive and eager to please. Although we could not get in the water, which was very disappointing, and the winds made it almost impossible to have some real fun in the sun, we did manage to numb ourselves with Mexican beer and tasty food. It was a beautiful setting with lovely people. I can't wait to do it again under normal sunny conditions. It should be a hoot!!
