We joined 3 other couples on a tour arranged by fellow Cruise Critic members. We were picked up at the pier and drove to Pisa, spending a few minutes in the area of the Leaning Tower. We drove through the countryside to Florence, first stopping for a photo op on a hilltop overlooking the river and the beautiful city. We went to the Ponte Vecchio area and then to the Duomo. We were disappointed to arrive too late to enter the cathedral, but we walked around the Duomo and the Baptistery and had lunch nearby. We then walked through a market area to the Uffizi Gallery, where we had tickets reserved.
We walked from the ship across the street to the Villa del Principe, home of Andrea Doria, where we toured the beautifully maintained/restored rooms and admired the lovely artwork and ceilings. We took the subway to the Cathedral in order to go inside before it closed at noon. The tour continued on, but we decided we had walked enough and we took the subway back to the ship.
The port was actually Toulon, but Marseille was one of the stops on the tour, which also included Sanary-sur-Mer and Cassis. It was a pleasant bus tour that gave us a general idea of Provence.
Bus tour which included considerable walking to reach La Sagrada Familia and other sites, including the park at the top of Montjuic and the lovely cathedral.
