Booked the bicycling/cenotes tour through Carnival. It is an hour from Progreso by van, there were 2 vans full about 18 of us. Got our bicycles and helmets and instructions. Had a local tour guide ride ahead of us on a bicycle, it is a dirt, rocky road through the jungle. Not sure exactly how far, maybe a few miles. The bicycles are not NEW. The chains are old, the gears don't work well, but you can manage. It is a little up and down but not too steep. We stopped at a bathroom then cycled to the first cenote. One of the vans followed with the lifejackets and our personal items. The first cenoted was down a steep rock stairway and had a small cave in back where a native Mayan medicine man told us about some different healing plants. Our guide translated. Then we got our snorkel equipment and went in the cenote. You can use their snorkels or bring your own. The water was cool and refreshing and crystal clear. You could see the rock formations and fish. The back part went underground and was black. We could not go into that part. Then we went back to our bikes and rode to the second cenote. It was slightly smaller but less open to the outside and deeper into the earth. I enjoyed our trip and was glad I came even though it was a workout. Most of the couples were younger than us. We then rode out bikes back to the small open air restaurant and had some authentic mayan food and drink. They had soda and beer also for $2 extra. After that we rode a short way back to drop off the bikes and rode back to Progreso on the van. They will drop you off in town if you want but you have to take the shuttle bus back to the ship on your own.

We like this port of call because my main thing i like to do is go to the beach. We shared a van/taxi to a place called Nachi Cocom, it is a private beach resort, very quiet, no entertainment or music. (Have to have booked this online in advance and paid a deposit). They limit the number to a total of only 100 guests per day. Has the best palapas and chairs to rest in and waiters all day long. Lunch and all you can drink liquor is included. There's a pool and "warm" tub, hammocks, a dock. You can rent snorkels, book a trip, but we just like to swim and relax. This was our 3rd trip there. We always make sure to tip the bartenders and waiters. Had to be back to the ship by 2:30 so the day was way shorter than I would have liked. Hardly ever see kids here, so its a great place to go for adults. They have bathrooms, showers, and a covered area with tables to eat but we always eat right on the beach. There are no street hawkers trying to sell you things. The only thing extra we usually buy is the photo they take of your group when you arrive with big sombreros on. They print it and bring it around to sell later, but there's no pressure if you don't want one.

I don't buy souvenirs so we usually just go back to the ship right after.
