City founded within the walls of Roman Emperor Diocletian's palace where people sought refuge from the barbarians after the fall of the Roman Empire is a fascinating visit including the the emperor's mausoleum.
Beautiful medeaeval walled city on the Croatian coast later remodelled by the Venetians. I mile walk around the walls is worthwhile. Somewhat too commercialised in the city's main streets.
Montanegran jewel of a port founded more than 1000years ago. Beautiful setting. Very good coffee in the cafes especially compared to the dishwater on the ship being served under that name. Dramatic approach from the sea.
Outstandingly beautiful cultural and historical city. Easy to organise own excursions using public transport or hop-on hop-off buses. E.g. City tour, Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum, The Phlegrean fields, The bay of Naples, The Capodimonte Palace and art museum, archeological museum, the catacombs. Further afield: Sorrento, Positano, Capri.
Eternal City and cradle (with Athens) of Western civilization. If you think you know what Caesar's Palace is without having visited Rome you are sadly mistaken.
