We spent 2 days in Honolulu --- first day we visited Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. Took a taxi there as I had obtained our tks from the Fed. Parks website and needed to pick up tkts at a specific time. Beautiful and very moving day. We then used "The Bus" to the flea market at Aloha Stadium. All the city buses can accommodate scooters so this was a very inexpensive way to get around. Very hot day with lots of walking. Our second day, we had planned to hit the beach but as DH can't stand for long we weren't sure about beach chairs and such so decided to do some shopping, instead. However, the free shuttles for Hilo Hatties and Walmart could not accommodate my DH's scooter so he stayed on the ship and I went shopping.

Very comprehensive --- Rick really knows tons of history of Hilo.

This is an island as the South Pacific was prior to the arrival of the missionaries. These people have nothing in respect to what we think are the basic necessities of life. No running water, sewer system, electricity, doctors/dentists, shops or hotels of any kind.

This was a real "eye-opener" for many of the ship's passengers !! Very hot and humid so many were back on the ship in a couple of hours.

However, the islanders are very warm and friendly. Small craft market at the pier with many handmade, very inexpensive items.

Unfortunately, Hal is eliminating this island from it's 2013 itineraries after next April so I worry about how these people will survive. Rumor has it the island is sinking and will be gone in 50 years !

Pretty island --- very nice pier area --- just walked around and did some window shopping. The pier area is difficult for scooters and there were no private tours which would accommodate it. This is a French speaking island so a little difficult if you don't understand the language.

HIGHLITE of our cruise!!!! Spent 2 days here --- so beautiful. Our tours with Patrick were fantastic and everyone had a wonderful time. My most favorite of all the islands. This is the place for Black pearls --- but you need to do some research so you know what you are buying. Due to the poor economy in the US -- tourism is way down and some of the gorgeous "over the water bungalow" hotels have gone out of business.

Did a HAL tour here -- Snorkel/Motu Picnic --- very expensive -- nice but nothing compared to what we enjoyed on Bora Bora for much less money. Great snorkeling and lovely lagoon. HAL's excursions are way overpriced, IMO. Very green and mountainous island. Did some shopping at the pier --- tons and tons of Black pearls --- I thought they were rare but not here !

Spent 2 days here due to a itinerary change caused by an unplanned medical evacuation just after leaving Fanning Island. Did a private island tour with Carl --- all around the island. Pretty place but not too many beaches. This is a large city complete with 2 McDonalds ! Stopped at a lovely restaurant for lunch.

Second day we visited the native market with it's handmade crafts, famous vanilla and beautiful floral arrangements for only $ 12 ! I think Bora Bora and Moorea represent the "true" South Pacific !
