just boarded from the air flight. Check in seemed to be delayed and the fact that the main square was not within walking distance meant that we did have the time to go into town.
Private tour of the countryside, Driver in Rome, SIENA AND SAN GIMIGNANO.
Be advised, Driver in Rome provides a driver who will share info while driving but not allowed to accompany tours into any cities. Also went to Piazza del Duomo and the site of the palio horse race.
Private tour of the countryside, Driver in Rome, with Tino, TARQUINIA - NECROPOLIS - TUSCANIA. The Necropolis was ok, but didn't require more than 45 minutes (seen one, seen them all unless you're really into tombs). The driver gave us 2.5 hours there but was most willing to change that to a shorter stay. We went to the town, stopped at the top of the street and we walked down to the museum and had a chance to shop on the way, The museum is worth the visit. We then went to a farmhouse where they made their own wine, honey, olive oil, cheese and served us a great 2 hour lunch made by the mother and served by the son. It was a fabulous experience thanks to Tino. Then we went to a few other stops which had fabulous scenery. Tino even had Internet service in his van!
Private tour with Francesco (info@francescomarrapese.com)
Naples, Amalfi coast, Sorrento, Positano. Just overrun with tourists. How bad this would be if it were in the height of the season. Loved the guide, though.
Private tour-sicilywithmario.com, out guide was Fabio, (fabulous!)
Catania, Taormina, lunch at a small restaurant (Gallo Cedrone, Castelmola) at the top of a mountain arranged by Fabio plus a walk around tour of this small city. This was also really special.
Ekol Travel Turkey & Greece - Private TOUR incl The Terrace Houses section plus Mary's house. This was excellent plus we arrived at a rub factory that had tables set out for lunch outside in a large yard - good food, gorgeous rugs (ok, a little pressure to buy, but we all resisted). We booked this tour early and got a 50% discount! Ephesus is amazing but the open air market at the end where we were harassed by vendors did not sit well with us.
Took the boat tour but Rhodes is not much to look at. Neither is Mykonos which reminded us of Caribbean with schlocky souvenirs and expensive jewelry stores and overpriced restaurants (took no tour there).
