Grand Cayman
Snorkeling Rating:
Ocho Rios, Jamaica - Did the Dunn's River Falls / Bamboo Beach excursion. The weather that day was not very good, it rained all day. Despite that the tour guides were great and did their best to show us a good time. We did get to see baby sea turtles by total luck at the beach so that alone made the excursion worth it.
We did really hate the pressure that we got from all of the market vendors...they use very aggressive sales tactics and at times were very rude if you refusted to even look at their wares. They need to chill out because it could hurt them in the long run. Everyone I talked to on the ship liked Jamaica EXCEPT for that part, so just be wary. And if you have children make sure they understand that NOTHING is FREE there no matter what the vendors tell them.
Stingray Swim Rating:
Caymans - By far our best port experience. We did our own excursion (not one of the Carnival choices). We booked a private charter from www.sailcayman.com and it was awesome. The captain (O'Neil) took us out to a private area and we had our own stingray experience...much less crowded than the sand bar everyone else goes to.
We then went to another place to snorkel. Food & Drink as well as transportation to & from the port provided. Can't say enough about this excursion. Trip Advisor has nothing but positive reviews as well. The water in the Caymans was the most beautiful I've ever seen...like a postcard everywhere you looked.
One really cool aspect of this excursion was that this captain actaully used the boat's sails a lot ..more than the engine of the boat. This provided a realy unique and relaxing experience. My understanding is that most charters don't do this...they just use the boat engines everyone. We really really liked the sailboat aspect of this excursion.
