Crusing into Budapest at 11 PM was so exciting. Budapest is so beautiful at night. All of the bridges, the Parliament, Royal Palace, and Mathias Church were lit. Our boat docked next to the Chain Bridge, which is a great locatin for seeing much of Pest. The next morning, we took a bus tour of Pest and Buda. From Gellert Hill, you have an excellent view of Buda and Pest. We had free time in the afternoon to explore on our own. We especially enjoyed walking the length of Vaci Utca, the walking street. As you get closer to the Great Market Hall, there are more outdoor shops, which I enjoyed. Scarves are a real bargain. I had been in Budapest three years ago so we only returned to a few favorite places. St. Stephan's Basilica is a beautiful building, and you can go up to a balcony for a great view of the city. The Opera House is also interesting. We found that we could walk everywhere we wanted to go although I have heard that Budapest has an excellent subway system. Even though we were on the Pest side of the Danube, we could walk across the Chain Bridge to Buda and take the funicular up to Fisherman's Bastion and the Mathias Church.
