Venice is a very impressive port as it is very close to the city and the ship sails down the Grand Canal past St Mark's Square when leaving and returning to port. The cruise terminal gets extremely crowded as most cruise passengers start and end their cruise here.
Bari is quite a nice city with the ship docking within walking distance (20 to 30 minutes)of some of the shopping areas, fish market and promenade. We visited the port on Sunday so quite a number of shops and businesses were closed. There were, however, still several shops and markets open for tourists.
Katakolon is a lovely, picturesque village. The port is at one end of the village and it is a short walk to the main street with lovely little shops. This port is the base for excursions to Olympia, although we decided to stay in Katakolon as the ship was not in port for very long.
The port of Izmir is quite central with nice panoramic views of the mountainous terrain. It was a pleasant walk from the ship to the main shopping areas. Some guests took excursions to Ephesus.
An awe-inspiring and imposing building. Definitely worth a visit. Mosque staff were very helpful with facilitating access for our disabled daughter. it does get very crowded though
Grand Bazaar Rating:
The Grand Bazaar was fascinating and very colourful. It's a great pity that we were only given 20 minutes to look around.
Hagia Sofia Rating:
This is a very interesting building as it has been a christian church and then a mosque and finally a museum.
Fascinating and picturesque old walled port city. The ship docks in the new town area which is still picturesque but a bus/taxi ride is required if you want to see the old town.
