Boat transfer in, not Costa crew, clearly not customer focused! Rush you on and off despite no room on the jetty!
Took cable car to top, had a pleasant walk around, coffee and some magnificent views of the ship in the bay.
Hindsight would mean I would take the bus to Olia, its regular and fast, no need for the organised tour!
Beautiful.

Just got off for a walk around. Left the smaller kids on the ship. They were happy as long as we took something back for them. We had plenty of choice! Walked off the ship, followed the shore...about 2 miles perhaps and we reached the biggest market you could imagine. Interesting place, glad we left the kids behind.
Interesting different culture, different way of life. Loved the vibe.
We were issued a warning notice by the ship to steer clear of large gatherings and crowds but its impossible to do so!
If we wanted to go to Ephesus we could have taken a taxi from the wharf, much cheaper than the tour. I'd risk it, but we had been before.

Athens
Port Rating:
The City is typical city. Bad pavements, traffic...dirty....
But we wanted to go to the Acropolis. So we left at 11, walked to the train station, about 20 minutes, turn left after leaving the port, keep going, train station easy to find.
4.60 euros later and a 20 minute train ride we were there. Walk uphill, not too strenuous, and if it is bars and coffee shops all along the way, to the monument. Its an interesting walk as well...following ancient route.
Kids are free! Adults 12 euro. Spent 2 hours....just looking and walking around. All ages loved it and great views.
All a bit tired by then, so walked out and got a taxi back, 25 euro to the door!
Worth doing.
Great place for ship spotting. Big ones, little ones, old ones, new ones, damaged ones, perfect ones. Took lots of pics of laid up ships.....I could stay for days just doing this!

Port Rating:
Nice little port for Olympia. Again, beautiful. We sailed at 2pm, and dint get off until near 11 so too late to go to Olympia. Had a nice walk, shopped and coffee....ice cream, play ground for kids at end of main street.
Lots of coffee shops on the waters edge.
For those wishing to go to Olympia, the train is running, 10 euro return, takes an hour.
Taxi....100 euro return was the offer as walked past them.
Bus, also 10 euro, regular.
But for my money, the way to go....car hire at the wharf, 30 euro for a day from Avis and a local company for a small car or 60 for a 7 seater. They had cars with big signs on them waiting.
Its an easy drive, take it steady and its a short walk at the end I'm told.
Nice place, very relaxing, glad we just walked about a bit.

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Its not Rome, its Civitavechia...or however you spell it. First ship that sails to Rome I will be on it!
My only regret, we didn't go into Rome. We should have. Been once before without the kids and took the train, would think that's the best way. Easy 5 minutes walk from port gates. There is a bus from the ship to the port gates, its a bit of a walk.
As for the port.....its an ok place, saw many others getting on carrying large shopping bags, no idea from where, we didn't find many shops! But we did sit and watch the waves crashing over the sea wall and walked the sea front. Very bracing.
