This is a very beautiful port and island. The port is conveniently close to the city center, walking distance for the more adventurous. We took a taxi because we had kids with us. We visited the cable car trip and then we walked by ourselves downtown, visiting the market, the cathedral and the city's main square. We returned to ship walking on the sea front until we got a taxi back to ship.
Ok, first of all, we had meteorological problems. Winds we blowing at 50+ km/h, with some gusts of 80 km/h. Other tours (Loro Parque) were cancelled because the park was closed, but ours was not. However, the wind, did make it harder to enjoy the views and the city of Puerto Cruz of Tenerife.
Despite the weather, we felt that this was the weakest excursion/port of all 4 we did in this trip. Would not recommend it as you surely have other option in Tenerife.
Las Palmas is a beautiful city. The old center is charming, has a cathedral and a few museums. We visited the free Colon's house which contains stories about his trips.
The port is right in the city, and public bus transportation to the center can be reached within walking distance, so this time we preferred bus to taxis.
There is also a shopping center right on the port.
This was the most outstanding port and excursion in our trip, and itself would be worth the entire trip. Words cannot describe what the visit to Timanfaya National Park means. Maybe John Glen (the astronaut) is the one who best described it: "It looks just like the moon". Go and check it for yourself.
