Walked around the port area and downtown. Didn't care for the straw market as vendors were too pushy. There was one row of beautiful wood carvings and those vendors were fine. Bought a few souvenirs downtown before going back to ship to eat. Friends heard that if we waited until after 6 p.m. we could take a taxi to Atlantis and see the aquariums for nothing. We ended up doing that and also going to some nice shops on the waterfront in that area. Taxi was only $4 per person each way and was worth it. Saw some beach damage and roof damage in downtown Nassau but other than that things weren't too bad. Our friends hired a driver for $25 each for several hours and were driven all around the island and they said it was wonderful.
Somewhat disappointed because the island was quite damaged from Hurricane Sandy. Island wasn't green, mostly brown. Beach was o.k. but long walk
from tender dock to beach area. None of the vendors in the small straw
market were friendly at all so we walked through very quickly. Mostly t-shirts
and straw purses anyway. We went back to the ship earlier than planned. The water was a beautiful turquoise color which remembered from our past visit.
