Honeymoon sailors's Port Reviews of Monaco, Portofino, Rome (Civitavecchia), Palermo, Seville, Palma de Mallorca Ryndam cruise in September 2012
Lovely city, Monaco. When we arrived we took the train to nearby Nice and walked around the old town. We came back in the afternoon to the Monte Carlo area, took in the Casino and the high end shops. Lovely gardens everywhere. After Monte Carlo we took the bus to the Old town early evening and had no crowds since most people did the old town in the morning. Took the bus back to the port and called it a night.
We tendered from Santa Margherita ligure. Took the boat to Portofino. Beautiful picture opportunities with the colored houses. Had an expensive cappachino at a street cafe and took it easy. Took the boat back to SML and had terrific seafood lunch.
12 hours in Rome. Since we have been to Rome before we skipped the major attractions and just took it easy eating gelato and shopping and eating. Still 12 hours was not enough, such a wonderful city
Scary city, the atmosphere was so dark. Garbage everywhere. Locals were frowning all the time. This is not a pleasant city to walk through. We were blessed with sunny skies throughout our travel except for this port. Let me tell you things look even worse with rainy skies. One happy thought, the Hugo Boss store had 50% off everything so Happy Shopping at least?
Hetic day, rush rush rush. We took Top Day Tours guided tour from Cadiz to Seville. Bit of a history lesson on the bus from our knowledgeable guide Debbie and relaxing ride (thinking glade we did not take public transportation) From the moment we got to Seville we rushed through everything, not really the tour's fault as our day shortened unexpectedly; but I really wish to be able stop and smell the roses so to speak. We had a 10 minute washroom break with our guide (lucky since another group did not even have this break) and 1 hour lunch at the end before driving back to Cadiz. Reminds me of why I hate group tours, wish I had stayed in Cadiz.
Taxi to the Cathedrale. The Cathedrale was majestic but we arrived to early to go inside. That was the highlight of this city. Other parts were nothing special.
Wonderful city. We arrived 1 day early to take in some shopping as shops close on Sunday and can you believe it, we keep coming back on Sundays! Even without shopping we had plenty to see as le merce festival happened when we disembarck. Staying at le Meridien we were in the center of action.
Not much in historical sites remaining. We were originally scheduled to go to Tunisia but due to the unrest we had to re-schedule. I guess it's because we did not research this port and cruise line gave close to no tourist info we felt it was not a worthwhile port to visit.
