Le Havre
Port Rating: 5.0 out of 5+
Rented a car right at the dock and drove to Mont St. Michel for the day. Loved it, despite being 3 hours each way. The "new" car park there is quite a distance from the shuttle bus stop, and then you have to walk at the drop off point. After running the gauntlet of souvenir shops, creperies, and restaurants, just took our time touring the museums and monastery. Great photo opportunities.

Historical Tour Rating: 4.0 out of 5+
Trim Castle, Hill of Tara, Howth Tour bus met us at the dock and we departed for the town of Trim, about 45 minutes away. Our bus driver was NOT a tour guide, and his brogue was so thick we couldn't understand him at all! Got to the Trim Castle before it opened at 10:00 so we were the first folks in. Had a very knowledgable tour guide and enjoyed seeing the castle, where parts of "Braveheart" were filmed. Very picturesque setting. After lunch (on our own), drove to Hill of Tara, an important spiritual archaeological site. Interesting history, and wonderful views from the top of the hill. Then on to the seaside town of Howth for a brief stop before returning to port. Saw a seal in the harbor. The Irish countryside is very green and lush. Would have liked to hear more about the sites in downtown Dublin as we were passing through.

Blue Lagoon Rating: 5+ out of 5+
Expensive, but worth it. Got there right as it was opening, so lines were relatively short. Really liked the electronic bracelets that control the lockers and allow you to charge beverages and stuff while out in the pool. Had a nice soak and did the "mud facial" thing. Totally relaxing!

Geysir Walking Tour Rating: 5+ out of 5+
Nothing like having a geysir erupt right in front of you every 4-7 minutes! Another highlight for me as a geologist.

Golden Circle Rating: 5.0 out of 5+
Very knowledgeable guide who went out of his way to show us lesser-known areas away from the large bus tours. Particularly enjoyed the "earthquake exhibit" at the post office/library building. Visited a volcanic crater, a smaller waterfall, the famous Gullfoss Falls, and the National Park. At the end of our tour, we stopped to photograph 40 Icelandic horses, who came trotting over when they saw I had an apple to share!

Gullfoss Waterfall Rating: 5.0 out of 5+
Very impressive, we had 1.5 hours here, enough time to take pictures from the upper and lower viewing areas, plus eat lunch at the restaurant. Had the lamb soup, which was very good and filling.

Krysuvik Geothermal Field Rating: 5.0 out of 5+
Very interesting, just drove by.

Thingvellir National Park Rating: 5+ out of 5+
Beautiful scenery, and fascinating geology. Two continental plates are spreading apart here and there are some amazing lava flows.
