Did a self guided walking tour. Very nice city but a bit pricey. The US$ being in the dumps did not help either. Some stores were trying to tack on a 7% UStoCAN conversion fee. On top of the 12% taxes made anything that looked like a deal not so much of one. Our 2nd port was also close to our first and the ship once again just anchored in the middle of the strait.
Almost missed this one. Immigration held up the entire ship for 3 hours. We were scheduled on the 1:45 ferry to Alcatraz but immigration finally let us off just after 2PM. The people at Alcatraz cruises were very accommodating and got us on the very next ferry. An extremely interesting and informative historical tour.
Walking Tour Rating:
Found out about this Real SF Tour excursion thru tripadvisor and liked the ability to take in the major parts of SF without sitting on a bus all day. This tour involved a lot walking including hills and stairs. It lasted about 7 hours and I felt like I accomplished something when done. This tour also includes use of a Mass transit pass for the day which was utilized on street cars, trolleys, buses and the BART system.
Had to be tendered into this port and the ride back late in the day became more adventurous as the seas picked up. We were late leaving because it seemed like the crew was having a hard time getting the last 2 tenders back on board. Just took a nice walk around the local streets. Not really interested in the wine tours offered.
