Very small port, but it was the gateway to Portofino and the Amalfi Coast. We did not book a shore excursion throught he ship but we did find a driver to take us to Portofino and we had a marvelous time shopping in small shops and getting to know the locals a little bit. It was quite hot in August; over 100 degrees so it made shopping a little difficult, but we did our best!
Beautiful day under a canopy of trees and out of the heat. Local wines were very good as well as the appetizers they had set out for us. Very pleasant day with a little bit of history of the winery by the owner.
Since we did not take a tour we cannot comment on that, however, we did walk the town and purchased some very high-end designer handbags for a fraction of the cost in the states. The shopowners were delighted to see us and it was interesting to walk the small alleyways.
This was a culture immersive tour and one that no one should miss. The hosts who have opened up their personal homes for us were delightful to speak with and were so kind to us. We especially enjoyed our host Mauro at the Noble house who prepared several kinds of goodies for us to enjoy while he told us of the history of his house and the surrounding area.
Venice is by nature a wonderful place to visit. All one has to do is ride on a Gondola and the day is magical. The history abounds all around and the people are genuinely glad to see you in their shops. The Venezia Murano Glass shop we visited catered to Crystal guests and we were treated to an unexpected glass-blowing demonstration. We were then brought through over 10,000 sq.ft. of Murano glass to peruse and purchase. We had a wonderful time choosing jewelry pieces to bring back.
