Opportunity to see whales, a mother bear and 2 cubs, eagles, hike around the glacier, and have many photo opportunities.
Mendenhall Glacier Rating:
Booked online with Mendenhall Glacier Transport LTD. Excellent tour of Juneau and of the glacier with special visit to the Presbyterian Chapel by the Lake at Auke Bay Alaska. The window view of the glacier from inside the chapel is worth the trip. Plus you can stay and visit at the glacier as long as you would like and then return on the Blue Glacier Express that departs from Mendenhall Glacier every 1/2 hour.
Local resident who is a bear hunter and seemed to know every bear in the area by its age, preferred places for finding food and resting took us and another couple on a 2 hour trip in his 4-wheel drive vehicle. We saw several bear in their natural environment.
We took the combination tour of the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center and the Alaska Native Heritage Museum for $28.95 each. Loved seeing the native dancers, the homes of the various tribes and learning about the various traditions of the different tribes. WW II exhibit in the museum was especially well done. Art especially the black and white photographs in the museum was also very nice.
Described above and the Butterfly Gardens and Butchart Gardens were included in the same tour.
Butterfly Gardens Rating:
Tour booked on-line for $50 each to the Butterfly Garden and Butchart Gardens, with return via the CVS blue bus whenever finished with each. This tour allowed us to stay as long as we liked at both places and since it was a sunny day and the flowers were exceptional, we stayed almost 4 hours in Butchart Gardens. The Butterfly Farm was nice but hot and humid so we only stayed there a little more than an hour.
