King's Wharf
Catamaran Cruise Rating:
We booked the Ultimate Catamaran tour. The 1/2 day excursion was very enjoyable with the crew of the Rising Sun. They provided lots of information about the island and were very pleasant. The snorkeling wasn't too great as there had been a storm previously. We saw some fish, but not too many. My kids enjoyed the stand-up paddle board and the kayak that was available on this trip. It was very nice to be floating in the beautiful Bermudian waters with noodles provided by the crew. It was a very relaxing experience.
Horseshoe Bay Beach Rating:
My family took the bus system for $4.00 per person to get to this beautiful beach. My sister & her family paid $11.00 per person for a taxi. Our bus trip was about a 30 minute ride with only a few stops. The beach at Horseshoe Bay is quite simply magnificent. The water is as blue as anything I had ever seen. The waves are very calm, nothing like the Jersey Shore! The beach gets crowded, but it is very large. There are umbrella's and chairs available for rental with deposit. Make sure you bring CASH, credit cards are not accepted.
We walked about a mile to the LEFT of the beach, where my son went cliff diving and we discovered more pristine, secluded beaches. You can walk along the coastline where there are rock formations, or there is a well worn path above the sand. If you decide to explore these secluded beaches, bring water shoes because the grassy path goes thru parking lots where pavement is a killer on bare feet. Also, there are cool rock formations that you can climb easily if you have something on your feet. Bring your camera as there are incredible pictures to be taken.
Reef Fishing Rating:
I found the ELLEN B thru the Bermudian Fishing Guide. I emailed about 5 other boats, and the owners of the Ellen B had the best price, and best reviews I could find. Captain Mike and his son Andrew were wonderful. They met us at the dock, a quick 2 minute walk from the Summit. We booked a 1/2 day excursion to go reef fishing. Within 10 minutes, Mike knew all our names, and took a genuine interest in everyone on board.
We literally caught 10 different species of fish in multiple quantities. The waters were incredible. Both Mike and his son are genuine Bermudians who educated us about life on the island, as well as the fish we caught. This was one of the most relaxing and pleasant days we had in Bermuda. The boat was spotless and provided plenty of shade for the 6 of us. It was obvious that Captain Mike and Andrew LOVE what they do. BOOK THIS - YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
Snorkeling Rating:
We walked to Snorkel Beach after our catamaran excursion. It was $5.00 per person to get in, but well worth the cost to get away from the Summit pool. The beach was crowded, but the water was nice. The kids had fun snorkeling and saw some large parrot fish. Bring water shoes as the sand getting into the water had sharp shells. Once you got past a certain point, the sand was soft and fine.
