Berthed at Rivierkaia in the most ugly harbour imaginable. The berth was only a ten minute walk from Karl Johan Gate, Oslo's main street. We rambled around the city, had a cup of coffee and did some shopping before returning to the ship. Oslo is not one of Europe's most beautiful cities, but one does not cruise to Norway for the ports.
The approach to Flam, in the early morning, was spectacular. The scenery was breath taking with snow still visible on the mountain tops although it was the end of July. We booked tickets at the railway station for the train trip to Myrdal. This lasts just under an hour and is most scenic. We then visited the local railway museum, which has free admission, before having a beer in the gir Brewery. Alcohol is expensive in Norway, but the occasion justified the high price.
