Wonderful people, great whale viewing boats, professional and accommodating. Know where the whales are and get you there. Have used Harv & Marv twice (Capt Pete (an owner) and Capt Shawn) and both trips were absolutely top notch and 'worth it'.
We caught the local shuttle and stopped at the Sitka Nat'l Historic Park (Totem exhibit and walking loop), and crossed one of the small salmon spawning streams (filled with salmon migrating upstream) by bridge en route to the Sitka Raptor Center. The Raptor Center is well worth the time and expense. It was wonderful! From the Raptor Center re-boarded the shuttle to town. Town was a bit disappointing. I thought there would be lots of Russian architecture to see, but only St Michael's Cathedral displayed the Russian influence (at least to the non-practiced eye). Others took the sea kayak excursion from HAL and loved it.
I just can't get very excited about Ketchikan. I grew up in the NW so fishing hatcheries and fish ladders are not so exciting to me. There seems little in the town other than the normal cruise port shops. Others in our group took a sea-plane tour (about 2 1/2 hours) and enjoyed it very much.
