Modern metropolis, we took the free bus to Mercato Mall. Nice enough, and went to Dubai Mall in a taxi. Enormous place, and we took in the Burj Khalifa and fountains before taxiing back to port at about 35 dirhams.
Next port in UAE is not available on here, Fujairah or Khor Fakkan. We didn't disembark but just enjoyed the on board sun.
We decided to have a good walk here, and so walked all the way to Muscat along the promenade. The walk is a good few miles, but the views were nice. The promenade is in good condition for all standards of walkers. The city was the quietest i've seen in the middle east, and was earily funny. Take time to look around the fish market. Very interesting, turn left through the taxis and you can't miss it.
DO NOT BOTHER. We boarded the shuttle bus to the outside of the port. We intended going to the expansive beach. On the way out, i saw a board indicating prices for taxis. Thes prices were totally ignored by the drivers who were totally exploitative, and were demanding $100 for a $15 job. We reboarded the shuttle bus and re-boarded Favolosa, cash in hand!!!
Took a taxi to the old Holiday Inn. $15 per person for the use of their facilities. Plenty of the ships staff were there, and i've stayed there before on an overnight stay from Luxor. Taxi cheap enough at $15 return.
Again, the next port is not available, so Sharm el sheikh. We bought the shuttle tickets from Costa at 6 euros per person return. Well worth it to not have to haggle again, and a reasonable distance to travel to Naama bay. Very busy beach, were you can't even sit down without being challenged for money!!
After being denied the English El Alamein excursion , we decided to tour Alex on our own. We walked miles around the city, which i have to say was filthy. A great shame considering the history of the place.
Really nice place. A bit disappointing we only had 1/2 a day there. 1st time we had been on a tender to get to the dock!! Took the trip up to the walls, and viewed most of the narrow streets. We went out of the city walls, and walked up the road overlooking the bay were we docked at anchor. This is a great viewing place of the bay, the walled city and the little islands surrounding. Nice quiet place to enjoy the views and well away from the tourist hoards in the city itself.
My only previous experience of Corfu Town was rain!!!
this time blessed with beautiful sunshine, what a relief. We again paid for the coach ticket from Costa at 6 euros per person return. This time it was poor value for money as you could walk it to the city in probably 10 minutes. Walked the full city promenade to near the palace were the Greek king, I think, has a residence at the far end of the bay. We were entertained by a local man called Spirios, who took delight in charming us of his love of Corfu.
Venice is great to walk. Just had enough time to walk to St. Marks via the Louis Vuitton boutique. We've been before, so it was good to see it again, and the crowds at the basilica and the campanile wouldn't have allowed us enough time to queue anyway.
