Cartagena (Colombia)
Port Rating:
It was VERY hot when we were in port, traffic was chaotic - but we loved it. Take a taxi to the old town, walk around, visit the Museum of the Inquisition, go up on the wall that surrounds old town, and definitely buy coffee at the Juan Valdez Cafe!

Puntarenas (Puerto Caldera)
Port Rating:
Highly recommend Odyssey Tours (check on Trip Advisor). They picked us up at the port (and patiently waited over 2 hours when our tender was delayed), drove us around, brought us ziplining, had an amazing local lunch right by the sea.
Our next port was Corinto, Nicaragua, but it's so rare that it's not available as an option to select! We loved the port and the joy of the people, despite the poverty. Cudos to Holland America for supporting tourism in this part of the world - they need it!

Puerto Vallarta
Port Rating:
Meh. Busy, not so pretty, but beers on the beach are cheap (if you ignore the vendors). Make sure you visit the Wal-Mart (yes!) across the street from the port - fun Mexican food, CHEAP tequila; you'll see all the cruise staff there.

Walk around downtown and do some shopping, or visit the museum at the port which is on an aircraft carrier.
