Beautiful City - Monorail from the port to Piazza Roma (1EUR) takes you to the cheaper water ferry into St Marks Square. It was EUR7 per person each way and a fantastic way to see parts of Venice. Water taxi from the port is EUR8 per person but only takes you on the main canal (not grand canal) so nothing to see. We only had 2 hrs in Venice but i would love to return for a long weekend. We had a fresh orange juice and a beer in the square and it was EUR11, I didn't think that was too expensive.
MSC offer a shuttle into the old town for EUR4 per person - Well worth it especially if its hot, the walk into town is uphill! Lovely old town with cobbled streets and the usual bars and restaurants, lots of tourist shops selling soaps and olive wood products. No beach that we saw although a small area for swimming close by.
Santorini is amazing! I would love to return here again very soon. We did a tour which i enjoyed however i think it was way to expensive. The main reason we took the tour was to get of the ship quicker. At Santorini you are at anchor, if you are not on a tour you have to collect a disembarkation number for reception - this will then allow you to get on a tender in order (not sure how busy it was). The tour took us to Santo wines which was lovely (wine was awful) the view from there was beautiful, we then headed to Oia, picture perfect make sure you head to the northern point for a beautiful view and just to experience the feel and sounds of the small village. After Oia we ended up in Fira - like Oia but larger, not quite as nice. The cable car down to the small port where the tenders are leaves from Fira. We paid EUR64 per person for the tour. To do it on your own is much cheaper -Cable car is EUR4PP each way (or donkey for EUR5PP. Taxi to Oia is approx EUR20 or if you can get it the bus is EUR1.20PP each way. Had we have known all this we probably would have done our own thing and skipped the Winery.
Hated Athens! We did the tour of Athens and the Acropolis, we only paid EUR30PP but still I wouldnt bother with this one, if your going to go to Athens you should go to the Acropolis but don't bother with anything else. We didn't get to go into the Acropolis but saw it from the base. I am pregnant and it was hot, so didnt fancy the steep steps and climb to the top. I understand you can get the metro from across the port to the Acropolis for EUR5 return , Not sure how much it was to get in. All in all couldnt wait to leave.
Kotor, Montenegro was delightful. We set our alarms for 5am to ensure that we watch the entry into the fords, Very glad we did - it was beautiful. Very narrow entries and high mountains either side, well worth it (we were on the port side of the ship so got a great view in the sunrise) Once in Kotor the actual village is quaint. We wondered the cobbled streets for a couple of hours and enjoyed the shaded areas. We finished up with a nice drink in the main square people watching. Very nice village but a couple of hours is all you need.
