Icy Strait
Port Rating: Not Rated
Icy straight is a tendered stop in the small village of Hoona AK. The shops were interesting to look through, but there really isn't much there, other than a few shops and a nature trail. I'm sure this would be a much more interesting stop however for those not from the region. The people in the village were very friendly, and gives you an opportunity to be on the rocky beach for awhile if the weather is nice. If you go a bit later, you can avoid most of the 'rush' that gets off when the ship first docks.

Juneau
Mendenhall Glacier Rating:
Juneau was my favorite stop on this cruise, having close by access to shopping, the tram and numerous tour choices on the pier. If you wish to see the glacier, you do not need to book the excursion on the trip. For $16 return trip, you can take a bus to the glacier and waterfalls, that runs every 30 minutes. The visitor center has an admission charge, but you do not need to enter if you are only interested in photo ops, or hiking. It is a spectacular place to visit, and the short hike to the waterfall is well worth it. Other things to see is the governors house and the Alaska State museum, all which are within walking distance and easy to find by following the signage in town. I did not get to see the museum, as it was time to go back to the ship for dinner.

Ketchikan
Duck Tour Rating: Not Rated
Ketchikan was an interesting stop full of local history and sites. Many opportunities to see Totem poles here. We took the duck tour which was very interesting, and gave us a good look at the city and huge marina. Our tour boat broke down just as it was trying to get out of the water, but the quick thinking staff got us on our way with out too much delay. The guide stayed in good humor throughout the 'crisis' Things not to miss are Creek Street, and some of the beautiful totem pole carvings throughout the tourist district.
