After a couple of hours we returned to our floating hotel for the next leg of the trip.

Our arrival up the majestic fjord was very special and after the ship spun around in its own length to dock those passengers booked on a shore excursions left the ship.

We both wanted to ride the railway up to the top of the mountain to view the extraordinary scenery in the high peaks. The train is the local means of transport up to join the main Oslo to Bergen railway.

The train trip met expectations as each special carriage for cruise passengers had its own guide/interpreter to explain the construction methods used on the railway and other points of interest on the route.

After coffee and waffles at the hotel in the mountains and a walk in the snow fields surrounding the area we returned by train to the ship in time for lunch.

The afternoon was spent sunbathing and admiring the scenery.

Port Rating:

Once in port passengers on excursions left the ship and others just left in their own time to either use the local hop-on, hop-off buses or just walk into the city about 800 metres away. There are various buildings and museums to visit, shopping in both super-markets or small stores to select gifts and souvenirs or just wander taking in the local colour. Our scheduled departure was mid afternoon so just a gentle walk and re-familiarize ourselves with this very pretty city.
