Santiago (Valparaiso)
Port Rating:
We started visiting Chile before we go out to the port. We knew beforehand that Santiago offered a look at a prosperous Chilean city. We stayed at the Marriott, which offered above average rooms in a nice property.
We arranged private tours through a great local agency, Cocha. They had great vans for us and our fellow CC that we hooked up with on this site.
The city was an interesting couple of days, and the guides offered us much insight into the history of it and Chile. We must add that the Chilean people we met were just so friendly. We also had some great dining in beautiful restaurants. The city was all we expected and more.We will offer up a few thoughts about some ports that we visited. Some are not available to review on this site.

Lima
Port Rating:
Let me say that we probably would have rated it a five, if we had more time. Again, we had a private guide that knew his stuff. We enjoyed learning about the history and culture of the city. FYI: they are very good at food preparation. If you go, take some time to visit the mercado...pretty large assortments of fruits and vegetables.

Colon (Cristobal)
Port Rating:
I would give it a 1 rating, but know there must be something of interest for someone. We didn't use a guide here, but did taxi to a local shopping area. We were ripped off on immediately on the price of the non-AC's van. The place has to be described as not exciting. It is obvious that the living standard here was lower than anywhere we saw in Chile, Peru, Ecuador or Columbia.
Oh, we did buy a new camera at the duty free shop that everyone was flocking into. The price was higher than on the ship, and higher than buying it in the States, Once again, we learned that most of the duty free shops are offering no bargains.

Cartagena (Colombia)
City Tour Rating:
We had fun! We all felt we needed more time in this pretty city. The little restaurants in old town looked so inviting. The shops there, too, looked beautiful.
If there is a next time, we would skip the flea market type pf shops set up for the tourists. We also would skip the little plaza where they sell coffee.
I could really downgrade the tour rating to a 2 or 3, except Marelvy was so nice, and we did not suggest changing things.
