The port of Papeete is bigger than I expected and as we took a tour of the island of Tahiti, we didn't have enough time to investigate Papeete. We will return one day to Tahiti and know we will not be disappointed.
Moorea was a tendered port. We took a private tour of the island in a fairly dilapidated school bus but with a resident American married to a local princess as our guide. We believed him. It seems that French Polynesia is suffering from the world's economic problems with a smattering of the gorgeous resorts being closed. Those aboard the Celebrity Century and the increasing number of other cruise ships will hopefully fill the gaps in the local economy created by these closures.
A full day in Bora Bora with an outstanding cruise arranged excursion snorkelling and swimming with the rays and sharks. Unforgettable. The tender was smooth so little time wasted.
Maui is picture perfect. A tendered port rather than docked, a valuable amount of time is dedicated to getting off and on the ship. But a late departure from Maui maximises our opportunity to investigate and enjoy a great luau.
The port of Honolulu was well organised for our disembarkation (with formalities having been dealt with in Maui). We went on to stay in Waikiki for 3 days and we will return.
