For less than $100.00 per night per passenger, we enjoyed a great cruise. We got a free upgrade from a cabin with an obstructed view to one with a great sea view. For most of the cruise the weather was fine, if a little cloudy, which is not a bad thing in the tropical sun. The first full day out was the worst weather day of 100+ cruising days with apparent winds of around 57 mph. There was not a lot to do but pray. The prayers worked and the wind calmed down to the 30's the second day. As stated earlier the weather was fine for the rest of the 11 days, with the exception of the last day at Half Moon. The morning was cloudy, but by early afternoon if was really pouring rain with thunder and lightning. Since HAL can not control the weather we can't fault them. We had confirmed dining around 8:15 when booking, but when we boarded we found that we had been switched to open seating. The open seating really worked out great for us, as we prefer to around 6:00 We were still able to get a reservation and a table for 2 with much earlier dining. The food was good and the dining room staff excellent. We tried the pinnacle grill, since we had a free voucher. It was great since it was free, but it would not be worth the $25/person charge. Why pay $50 when you can eat good food in the regular dining room. We have stayed in most of the different staterooms that HAL offers and found the outside cabin adequate. A suite is great if you can afford it, but for this cruise the outside cabin was fine, as it was to rough to be out on a balcony for some of the days. Unless you plan on spending most of your time in your cabin, why pay the extra thousands. We have over 100 days of cruising with HAL. We are in our fifties and do not drink alcohol or gamble. We are not party animals. The crowd is older, but that is OK with us. We say one of the Royal Caribbean monster ships in St. Thomas. What a behemoth.

Cabin review: Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Port and Shore Excursions

Great lunch on board. Swimming with the sea turtles was a real highlight. The shipwreck was well, just a shipwreck. Not a lot of fish.
Whale & Dolphin Watching
Don't waste your time. You are basically paying for a boat ride. They had something that looked like some kind of homemade contraption that supposedly called whales. It did not work.
Gardens near Souffrie are a joke, but the boat ride getting there is OK. We could have done without the partying and rum punch and loud music. The scenic cruise would have been much nicer without the aforementioned.
The beach was nice but steep. Wife could hardly stand in the surf or climb the hill up to the towel. They made some of the people, including swim to the beach from the boat. They must have had to many people to take them in on their little life boats with motors. St. Martin is OK, but don't take this excursion.
Castaway girl is a nice catamaran. The snorkeling at little buck island is OK. They should not be serving rum punch.
