we booked our trip through ROL and it started with two great nights in Singapore. we enjoyed some great food there but could be pricey. getting on board was easy and we found the whole thing exciting as we had never cruised before. Our room was spotless with plenty of storage, very comfy bed slept like a log each night.A broken shower head was replaced within 20 mins.
Food was very tasty and went for the Asian options at every opportunity, why go there and eat steaks and European food!.Our first nights meal could have been spoiled had we let it, by two women whinging and complaining about something on their table, they spoke to anyone that would listen..we felt sorry for others at the table who had to listen to it all meal.it became obvious that this is a trait of some cruise goers, they treat the staff like inferiors and lackeys. The poor customer service staff had to listen to a succession of people complaining about all sorts, looking for freebies and upgrades no doubt!.It was also obvious that people expect EVERTHING on a plate for them.We booked a tour back in June to the royal palace in Bangkok and were made aware of a dress code, there were still people getting off the coach!,, that said they knew nothing about the dress code..the information was everywhere, read it. The clocks changed on the trip, loads of people did it the wrong day, again the information was everywhere! but of course it was someone else's fault that they got up early!.
The trips were full on and crammed as there was so much to see in just one day
how can you complain that we dock two hours from a city, what are they supposed to do if the city is inland! we did both long days and were back in time for dinner each day with no problem.
As for giving advice on how to sneak drink on board...it was made clear that this was considered inappropriate behaviour and i agree. We thought it might be nice to take some wine for our balcony but read the information saying it would be removed, apparently something to do with customs, whatever, the code of conduct said no,so we were happy to comply. But again i suspect many people just didn't make the effort to read all the info or think it doesn't apply to them.Formal Dress code seemed to be optional, which was a shame. But again it was like some people think these thing don,t apply to them, just others (more moaning and complaining, "whats wrong with my shorts and tee shirt"!)the sad thing was the staff gave in,sick of being abused i suppose.
We were happy with the buffet food, again strong Asian flavours.Liked the piano bar.At the end of the cruise we had a flight to Hong Kong for a two night stay.Would have been better if you had the earlier flight time, but that's the luck of the draw.Loved Hong Kong again fantastic Asian food, never had a chip for 12 days. Great hotel and good flight home.
To sum up we had the most fantastic trip, yea things went wrong, but these things happen, it is a huge exercise.Stop whinging, complaining, moaning, telling everyone, going over and over it,blaming people, abusing staff (who were charming and friendly without exception, felt really sorry for them, the way some were treated) and enjoy the experience for Gods sake!If you don't want to pay ship prices for drinks or trips..then go camping.. or if you want people falling all over you and pandering to your every whim and enjoy talking down to them buy a private yacht.
We will definitely use the company again but keep ourselves away from the moaners as we did this time.Go with the right attitude and have a great cruise..
