Here is an honest review of the cruise.
You get what you pay for and that is exactly what Norweign Sky gives you...value..and not a whole lot else.
Day 1 - Arrived in Miami - easy transfer from airport to port..don't use the Norweign recommended transfer, it is very expensive. Google transfers to find the best price. Embarked easily and staff was very friendly. The rooms wasn't ready yet, but we arrived on board at noon. Lunch was ready and was hamburgers/hotdogs, etc...nothing fancy, but food was hot and ready. The ship is a little outdated compared to all of the fancy ships now available (but it is a very affordable cruise, not intended for long trips). Very few staff members speak any English and hardly any understand what you are saying if you speak English, but that is typically of cruise ships. Once we got to our room, our luggage was waiting on us which was a surprise because other ships have taken slightly longer. Upon inspecting the room, it was dirty :(..the cabinets had soda stains running down the front, there was hair in the bed, and the shower was cracked. Also, bring your own shampoo/soap, etc, they do not provide anything for you except some dispensers in the shower (yuck). The hallways smelled musty probably because water kept leaking from somewhere?? There was always a fan in the hall drying the carpet, it became a joke to our group, but it did smell. I explored the ship and was impressed with the fitness classes and equipment. The spa was nice, but they got me to sign up with the promise of a special and then didn't give it to me when I got my treatment the next day :(. We ate at Il Adagio (Italian rest. $10). It was pretty good, but a little disappointing because the staff was not Italian..the bread is awesome and seafood was very good. Didn't really take in any shows, everything started late and after traveling all day, I hung out on the balcony and enjoyed the view (definitely recommend getting a balcony).
Day 2 - Great Stirrup Cay - I opted to enjoy the empty ship rather than go to the beach, but several people I was traveling with went and enjoyed it very much. There is construction going on for improvements, but it didn't impact their day whatsoever. I went to a TRX strength training class and abs class..which were taught by a great instructor. Then headed to the spa...the treatment was nice, but the changing room was gross...people where showering in the spa because they didn't like their stateroom shower and it was a little more rowdy than relaxing. I was also upset that I didn't get my special price, but whatever..I was on vacation. Relaxed by the pool (there is only 1 :(..no movie under the stars...4 hot tubs which were being utilized by noisy spring breakers who had to be talked to several times and the captain had to visit their room!). Also, when some vacationers where headed to the island, one of the ferry's hit another ferry causing some excitement. The ferry was put out of service and about 300 people couldn't not go to the island. Great service at the pool and the buffet is right there so you can grab a sandwich and enjoy it at the pool. Drinks were high...but they are on every cruise. That night at the Palace restaurant - bad service :(..they food was not that great and the menu was very limited. Went to see the comedian, but he wasn't really funny and I got bored and went back to the room to read a book.
Day 3 - Nassau, Bahamas - Been here before, but if you haven't been in a while, there have been some definite improvements and it is a relatively safe port. Went on the segway excursion and had a great time. I lost my cell phone, but the excursion directors found it and returned it to me early in the afternoon..Yeah! Enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the pool (weather was awesome the whole time..and hot!). Ate dinner that night at Cagney's Steakhouse ($25) and it was well worth it. Try the speakeasy martini and lobster tail...yummy. Shopped around the boat and got a great deal on some items that evening. Some friends went to the adult game show, they thought it was funny, but it is definitely not for people who are easily offended.
Day 4 - Miami - Disembarked easily - you can keep your luggage and walk off when ready which is nice. Van service arrived within 5 minutes of getting off the boat.
Tips - if you are an early riser, don't get up - breakfast is not served until 7am which is annoying. Food buffets close early and there is nothing to eat or snack on unless you can get through to room service, but since most people on the boat are ordering pizza's don't expect service to be quick. The scrambled eggs on the buffet are not real eggs...gross. The buffet serves the same thing everyday which stinks. The beds are not comfortable and the pillows are like rocks so if you are driving bring your own. The muster drill is horrific..you line up on deck in rows and have to stand right on top of each other..also you can't really hear anything through the PA system so if anything really did go wrong it would be a disaster. March is not really a good time to cruise if you are looking for relaxation...lots of children and spring breakers...they even made an announcement over the PA that spring breakers where on board. Overall, I will stick with Princess Cruises, they can be a little more expensive, but the boats are more luxurious, better food, service, and entertainment.
